Mallorca welcomes the unique cycling tour Kill the Hill

On the 6th of May the island of Mallorca is set to host the first edition of Kill the Hill, a 110 km cycling tour in which participants will have to face 2,000 metres of elevation gain. The ascent of Puig Major, the highest peak in the Balearic Islands at 1,436 meters above sea level and a part of the Serra de Tramuntana, a region recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, will undoubtedly present the greatest challenge of this exceptional cycling experience.

There will be a timed ascent of 7 kilometers between craggy rocks with a 9% average gradient and 16% ramps, as well as breathtaking landscapes of Mallorca. Cycling enthusiasts have a misconception that there is no way to reach Puig Major’s summit because it is a military base, but the Kill the Hill ride has dispelled that notion. The route was made exclusively available to participants by the event organizers.

The race will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6th, from the Puerto Pollença Aerodrome. To ensure optimum safety and exclusivity in the services for everyone who faces this unique experience, Kill the Hill has limited spots to 300 individuals and gives exclusive presents in the registration for all participants. A former professional cyclist named Jan Eric Schwarzer and the organization Kumulus are the organizers of Kill the Hill.

These are the greatest cycling routes in Mallorca that you should not miss

You must experience these breathtaking cycling routes on Mallorca, whether you are a novice or a seasoned cyclist. There is strong evidence to back the notion that the island is the center of European cycling, with the number of visitors now topping 150,000 annually as well as some professional teams establishing training centers here during the winter.

The island has rightfully acquired its reputation thanks to its warm and sunny autumn, winter, and spring weather as well as its challenging terrain, well-maintained roads, and sophisticated infrastructure. Cycling enthusiasts can find picturesque, calm country roads all around the island, some of which lead to old castles, monasteries perched on mountaintops, and lighthouses. If you’re on the island for a cycling vacation, these are the routes you shouldn’t miss.

Tramuntana Costal Road

Undoubtedly Mallorca’s most beautiful road is the 110 km west coast road that stretches from Pollensa in the north to Andratx in the south. The 2,520-meter ascent takes you over the Coll de Femenia, Puig Major (the highest peak on Mallorca), Can Costa, Cap des Bosquet, Coll de sa Gramola, es Grau, and ends at Andratx. The Puig Major road is 13.7 kilometers long with a height of 818 meters and an average gradient of 6%. You’ll pass through some of the most picturesque mountain villages along the way, such as the orange-hued Sóller valley, the renownedly picturesque village of Deià, the monastery town of Valldemossa, the coastal villages of Estellences and Banyalbufar (Both are strongly recommended for a tea break with classic almond cake.), and then it’s all downhill to the town of Andratx.

Cap de Formentor

One of the most well-known cycling routes on Mallorca is the Cap of Formentor. At the bottom of the 20 km winding road, which ends at the lighthouse atop Cap de Formentor and gives some of the most breathtaking views on the island, is the charming northern town of Port de Pollensa. The road used to be highly crowded in the summer with rental cars and tourist buses, but it is now much more bicycle-friendly thanks to a prohibition on most motor vehicles in July and August (between 10:00 and 19:00).

Coll de Soller

The Sóller Tunnel opened in 1997, and practically all motorized traffic now uses it to bypass the mountain’s twisting roadways. As a result, the former road is now a cyclist’s paradise. Coll de Soller is a good climb from either side, but it is more difficult going south.

Sa Calobra

The small fishing community of Sa Calobra is noted for its breathtaking views, hairpin curves, and difficult ascent – 10 kilometers with an approximate gradient of 7% and a few 12% kicks near the end.

Palma

The most popular cycling trail in Palma spans along the seafront from Porto Pi to El Arenal, going through the chic neighborhoods of El Molinar, Portixol, Ciudad de Jardn, and the vacation destinations of Playa de Palma and Arenal. The path is mostly level, but keep an eye out for other cyclists, rollerbladers, walkers, dogs, children, and a variety of other potential hazards along the way. Putting that aside, cycling is a fantastic way to explore the city promenade, beaches, and nightclubs, bars, restaurants, and hotels in the vicinity of the capital. Along the way, there are beautiful views, and there are plenty of beach cafes and restaurants by the water where you can pause and take it all in.

Orient and the central region

The center section of Mallorca has mostly flat terrain and passes through stunning attractive villages such as Santa Maria and Bunyola. You can alternatively ascent Coll d’Honor to Orient, descend into Alaró, and return to your starting point, or continue on to Selva, Lloseta, and Caimari. There are numerous ways to travel back and forth so you may discover more of the island. Coll d’Orient, a gradual ascent with excellent road surfacing that makes for a nice descent, presents the largest obstacle on this route.

Renting a bike in Palma is simple, but it is recommended that you book ahead of time. Whatever it is that you may need, we would be more than happy to assist you in any way we can, so if you are looking for a vacation in Mallorca and want all the stress taken out of it, getting to see all the highlights, and also having excellent guides and support along the whole way, then look no further. Mallorca bike rental – from e-bikes to road bikes

In addition to a beach holiday on Mallorca’s fine sand beaches, the island is seeing a rise in the popularity of bicycle vacations. There are a great number of visitors who choose to explore the Balearic Island by bicycle, and as a result, there are a great number of bicycle rental establishments on the island.

Mallorca’s bike rental shops cater to a diverse audience by stocking a wide variety of bicycle types. Renting a racing bike for a few days or a week and riding like the professional cyclists who come to the Balearic Island every spring to train is a popular activity among tourists who like to be active while on vacation. All you have to do is book a reservation online and pick up the bikes when the time comes. Typically, rental agencies will provide a pick-up and drop-off service at the hotel. This way, you won’t be tied down to staying at a hotel or renting a house close to the action. A large number of providers also keep active cooperative relationships with the owners of motels that cater to cyclists. In this scenario, you can make your reservation for the racing bike right there at the hotel reception desk. There are racing bike rental businesses that also provide island tours with a guide. If you are interested in participating in such an arrangement, you may get more information on the website of the organizers or in the branch office in the local area.

Mallorca has a vast selection of different kinds of bicycles to choose from. A mountain bike is ideal for long rides across rough terrain. Choose this sort of bike if you’re looking for a sporty challenge and want to test your limits of performance on the stony mountain trails of the Serra de Tramuntana. When you rent a mountain bike from some businesses, you may even get a bottle cage and a tool kit. Whether you’re just looking to cruise the beachfront boardwalk or get some errands out of the way, a city bike is the way to go. The bikes have a rack and basket similar to those found on Dutch cycles. Choose a sports or trekking bike for your longer cycling rides along Mallorca’s coast or hinterland. When possible, you should rent panniers to attach to the back rack so you have somewhere to put food and liquids. Mallorca’s bike rental shops provide not only the aforementioned models, but also e-bikes. The electric motor on these bikes greatly improves the comfort level of cycling in the island’s more mountainous parts.

The cost of renting a bike in Mallorca varies according on the type of bike and the length of the rental. You may currently rent a basic city bike or a child’s bike for 10 euros per day. The cost of renting the bike decreases with time. Some rental companies charge as little as 45 euros a week for a city bike, which costs 10 euros to hire for a day. A water bottle, extra inner tube, and air pump are frequently included in the rental cost. Electric bikes cost between 24 and 30 euros a day, while mountain bikes start at 20 euros. Racing bicycles come in a variety of sizes. The daily rental rates range from 17 to 44 euros, depending on the equipment and material. The time of year also affects pricing. The most expensive times to rent a bike are between June and September, which is considered the high season. Many rental shops offer sizable discounts to tempt you during the off-season.

mallorca-in-february

Mallorca in February

One of our favorite cycling months in Mallorca is February. The weather is typically dry, there is little wind, and it is extremely mild; there is no traffic, only bicycles on the roads. There is a vast network of great roads with little traffic, routes with beautiful sea views, and routes that are easily accessible to the highlands to the northwest of Palma for those who haven’t cycled much in the south of the island. It’s a cycling haven!

In February, the days in Mallorca begin to lengthen as we progressively move closer to spring. In the countryside, landscapes are beginning to appear, along with blossoming flowers and almond trees. We have more daylight hours and a warmer temperature than in January.

How is the climate in Mallorca in the month of February?

With an average of 8 hours of sunshine every day, February definitely has a more upbeat vibe. While nighttime lows are around 5 degrees, daytime highs can reach 15 degrees, making it feel much warmer than northern Europe at this time of year. Keep in mind that temperatures decrease in the evenings, often dropping to 5°C, so be sure to bring a heavy coat. At the beginning of February, sunrise occurs about 8:00 am, but by the end of the month it has retreated to around 07:30 am, while sunset occurs around 18:00 pm.

What is happening in Mallorca in February?

Local fairs and fiesta’s

On Mallorca, there are more than four million almond trees, making them a significant feature of the landscape. In February, almond blossoms are at their most gorgeous, therefore Son Servera will host its annual Fira de la Flor d’Ametler. Various sorts of almonds, works of art crafted from almond oil, almond wood, almond-scented candles, fragrances, and floral arts and crafts made from almond flower are just some of the things that can be found at this almond fair. ‘Sa Revetla,’ a traditional dance performance from Mallorca, is often included in the morning festivities. As Sencelles prepares to honor their patron saint, the Festes Santa Agueda will take place. This event often include a parade and one of Mallorca’s renowned “Correfocs” (fire runs).

Carnival

Mallorca’s Carnival marks the beginning of the Lenten season (Sa Rua and Sa Rueta). The highlight of the celebration is a procession through Palma’s streets, complete with music, dancing, and fireworks. The kids will love this event!

A light festival at Palma Cathedral

Visitors to Palma’s Gothic cathedral on February 2 for the Light Festival are encouraged to get there by 8:00 a.m. Due to the sun’s current position, the rosette window at Palma Cathedral will seem as a figure eight when viewed from the other wall. Don’t miss this amazing spectacle, which only takes place twice a year on November 11 (the feast of Sant Martin) and February 2 (the feast of La Candelaria).

A romantic weekend away

The hotels in Mallorca frequently develop some alluring packages designed specifically for a weekend of romance. Take a look at the various selections to see what would suit your taste buds. There are bottles of champagne, dinners, spa treatments, and more that can be found on the menu. Mallorca has everything, whether you want a city getaway or a more rural hideaway! Take your pick, then.

Horse riding tours

If you want to see Mallorca’s beautiful scenery from a different perspective, you may rent a horse and guide from one of several firms that provide trail rides. Mallorca’s almond and olive trees, woodlands, steep mountain treks, charming villages, and historic man-made structures are all waiting to be explored by you.

Cycling in Mallorca

It should not be surprising that a large number of road cyclists are traveling to the island in February when it is at its best. Due to the popularity of the inland plains and the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, you are likely to see large groups of bikers on the routes. There are some fantastic bike rental locations all across the island if you want to visit Mallorca and do a little cycling without bringing your road bike, which will allow you to move without any difficulty.

Whatever it is that you may need, we would be more than happy to assist you in any way we can, so if you are looking for a vacation in Mallorca and want all the stress taken out of it, getting to see all the highlights, and also having excellent guides and support along the whole way, then look no further. Why is renting a bike in Mallorca a good idea for you?

Renting a bike on Mallorca is an activity that not only helps people lead healthier lives, but can also be a lot of fun. Therefore, it is in your best advantage to prepare it well so that you can enjoy it to the fullest possible extent, and it is worthwhile to do so.

Mallorca’s bicycle rental businesses have adjusted to the various needs of its clientele. They have many different movable pedestals available. They want to rent a racing bike for a few days or even a week as a result.

You can reserve the wheels online; thus, be on the lookout for them on the specified date and time. The majority of bike rental shops provide a pick-up service. Consequently, you stay location-independent. Therefore, you are not required to choose a nearby hotel or vacation rental. Many suppliers of bicycles also collaborate with hotel operators. If this is the case at your hotel, you can reserve a racing bicycle at the front desk. Additionally, several bike rental companies provide guided island tours.

There is a huge variety of bicycles available in Mallorca. A mountain bike is ideal for off-road activities. You should not skip a trip to the Serra de Tramuntana if you enjoy physical difficulties and want to push your boundaries on the rugged mountain trails. A mountain bike is the ideal vehicle for such excursions. Some rental facilities provide mountain bikes with bottle racks and an emergency repair kit. Otherwise, a city bike is ideal for traveling along a promenade or for running shorter errands, as desired. The equipment on this kind of bike is based on the Dutch design.

A sport or trekking bike is a better choice than a Dutch model if you are planning longer bike rides, such as those to the coast or interior to Mallorca. These journeys will be more comfortable on these types of bikes. Renting saddlebags with rear luggage rack connections is ideal because they offer space for supplies and beverages. There are several rental locations that also provide electric bike rentals in addition to these traditional bike varieties. This kind of velocipede has an electric motor that aids in ascent, making cycling in the island’s mountainous sections considerably more comfortable. Even so, it’s insufficient. Additionally, you may rent velocipedes for kids in Mallorca, tandem bicycles for two people, and specialized exercise bikes.

The cost of renting a bicycle in Mallorca is determined by a number of criteria, including the type of bicycle rented as well as the time period for which it is reserved. The most affordable option is a basic city bike or a bicycle designed for youngsters. These are offered for a daily rate starting at 10 euros. When you reserve your velocipede for a longer amount of time, you have the opportunity to save money because discounts are given for longer rental periods. Take, for instance: Despite the fact that the daily rental fee for a city bike is ten euros, some vendors will rent them out for only forty-five euros for the entire week.

Furthermore, it is normal practice for these costs to include the water bottle, backup hose, and air pump. Daily rates for mountain bikes begin at €20, while e-bikes cost between €24 and €30. Different types of racing bikes diverge greatly. Daily rates might be anything from 17 euros to 44 euros, depending on the type of material and tools used. Furthermore, rental rates are heavily affected by the time of year. The months of June through September are peak season and typically have the highest prices. As a result, several vacation rental resorts offer steep discounts to guests during the off season.

Mallorca in January

Mallorca offers all the elements—sunshine, a late Christmas celebration, and a month of parties—for a fantastic getaway from those dreaded “January blues.” The month of celebrations begins with the famed ‘Three Kings Parade,’ followed by some of the largest local fiestas of the year, such as the Festes de Sant Antoni (Saint Anthony) and Sant Sebastiá (Saint Sebastian).

Hikers and road cyclists in particular enjoy the mountains in January since the weather is mild and ideal for outdoor activities. To that end, if you’re a cyclist looking to get your legs spinning for the new season, look no further than the Playa de Palma Mallorca Cycling Challenge. Die-hard foodies can have fantastic culinary experiences in Palma City, the Ports, and the Mountains, and of course, the Mediterranean sunlight provides for al fresco dining during the day, so you can keep up your vitamin D levels. So, without further ado, let’s get into more information regarding Mallorca in January.

How is the climate in Mallorca in January?

Since there is an average of seven hours of sunshine per day in January, a lot of people travel to the island to get some winter sun. Despite the highs of 16°C, the average temperature of 10°C is warm enough for midday al fresco dining with only wearing a light sweater or jacket. Keep in mind that temperatures dip to 5°C in the evenings, so pack some warm clothes as well! Throughout the month, you can experience sunrise about 8:00 and sunset between 17.30 and 18.00.

What’s on in Mallorca in January?

Christmas festivities

Despite the fact that much of Europe will be slowing down after the holidays, the celebrations in Spain continue until well into the new year. There’s still time this year to check out a Christmas market if you haven’t already. As of the 6th of January, several Mallorcan Christmas markets will still be open for business. Christmas markets may be found all around Mallorca, including Palma, Andratx, Sóller, Puerto Portals, Manacor, and Port Adriano. Amongst the Christmas booths and music, what could be better than indulging in a final glass of mulled wine to extend the holiday cheer?

The Three Kings parade

On the eve of the Epiphany, on January 6, Palma and many towns and villages throughout Mallorca, along with the rest of Spain, celebrate the annual “Three Kings Parade” as a tribute to the three wise men who presented gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the baby Jesus. People come from far and wide to see the three kings and their gorgeous floats as they parade through the streets of Palma, which is home to the biggest and greatest celebrations. Anywhere you are, you’re likely to see one on January 5th because so many other towns and villages also put on their own version of the extravaganza. If you approach the crowds closely enough, you might be able to snag one of the many sweets that are thrown into them throughout the parade.

Local fiesta’s

The Festes de Sant Sebastiá (Saint Sebastian) revitalize Palma after a few days of rest, making January a fantastic time to take part in more local festivities. The city certainly knows how to ring in the new year in style as it hosts a plethora of cultural events, sporting competitions, live music performances, and kid-friendly entertainment in honor of Palma’s patron saint. The largest night comes on the 19th, when crowds of people pack the city’s squares to watch live music performances under the light of enormous bonfires constructed to keep partygoers warm. The fabled Correfoc “devil fire run” occurs on the evening of the 26th.

The festival of Sant Antoni (Saint Anthony), which is held in honor of the patron saint of animals on January 16 and 17, is extensively observed throughout the island and is especially well-liked among kids. Along with parades, bonfires, and the demons’ dance that historically entice Sant Antoni, domestic animals are blessed in the local churches in many villages. The largest events take place in Sa Pobla, a town in the north where this festival has been celebrated since the Middle Ages. Many of the villages on Mallorca still hold their annual celebrations today, including Manacor, Pollença, Artà, Son Servera, Santanyi, and Muro.

Eat like a local

On those frigid winter nights, you can warm up with a meal from Mallorca’s cuisine. The Arrós Brut, the suckling pig, and the lamb in Mallorca are among of the best you’ll find anywhere in the world. The best traditional celler restaurants can be found in Palma, Inca, and even small rural communities like Algaida, so if you want to dine in true local manner, look no further.

Hiking, cycling or relaxing in the Sierra de Tramuntana

Especially during these cooler months, road cyclists and hikers are drawn to Mallorca’s Sierra de Tramuntana. The picture-postcard mountain villages and towns of Valldemossa, Sóller, Deià, and Fornalutx, on the other hand, should be on your to-do list if you’d rather relax with a cup of coffee while reading a book or touring some charming mountain villages.

Sporting events

The biggest cycling event of the year in Mallorca is the Playa de Palma Mallorca Cycling Challenge. This four-day cycling challenge draws a lot of well-known road cyclists, who utilize it to start their season. The course tests riders’ many skills with its varied terrain, which includes city streets, coastal, and mountain roads. The activities listed here are just a sampling of what Mallorca has to offer in January.

Mallorca: The best winter cycling destination

It’s understandable why professionals and amateurs alike flock to the Spanish coasts to live or train given the affordable flights from other areas of Europe and the low cost of living once you get there. This article examines the ideal location to set up shop for some winter riding. It’s none other than Mallorca, our favorite place to go cycling in the winter. An excellent location to get over the winter doldrums and provide a welcoming cycling community with considerate and courteous drivers.

Mallorca, with its varied topography and favorable temperatures, is one of the most well-liked winter cycling destinations. To avoid the congested roads caused by cars and buses during the busiest summer months, we advise going in the winter. There can be wide variations in temperature, and it has been known to snow on the peaks. However, temperatures regularly rise to around 15 oC. That ought to be warm enough for the winter sunseekers, especially if leaving the home takes donning a hundred layers of gear where you reside in order to go for a two-hour winter ride.

The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, which is home to the famous Sa Calobra, is the lovely island’s greatest training asset. Because of its bottomless dead end, it lacks the same notoriety as a grand tour col. But with an average gradient of 7% across 9.4 kilometers, it presents a test for any cyclist. If you’re planning a trip to Mallorca, the cycling island, make sure to carry your lightweight chainset. The quickest route to Mallorca provides for a training camp that is even shorter without adding significantly more time to the trip. Come to the sunny island and enjoy life to the fullest.
