On April 2, 2023, the International Triathlon de Portocolom will mark its 25th anniversary. The early season competition, which takes place in the town of Felanitx on the Spanish island of Mallorca, offers two alternative distances: the 55.5 (50km bike, 5km run, and 500m swim) and the 111. (100km bike, 10km run and 1,000m swim).

According to the organizing committee for the event, there will be 25 different nationalities represented among the registered participants in 2023, along with 40% foreign triathletes overall and 20% female competitors. The swimming will take place in Portocolom Bay. The cycling portion will include a 50 km loop that includes Puig de Sant Salvador. Triathletes will race to the town’s lighthouse, which is only accessible on the day of the competition for their delight.

The Club Náutic de Portocolom, which is located in the center of the characteristically Mediterranean village, is where the race’s finish line is located. Jaume Vicens, the event’s alma mater and a forerunner of triathlon in the Balearic Islands, has been tournament director since 1998, when just 30 athletes competed in the first edition.

Mario Mola, a triathlete from Mallorca who also successfully won the 55.5-mile race in 2022, will serve as the event ambassador once more to commemorate the 25th anniversary. The Triathlon de Portocolom is among the fabled tournaments of this sport at a European level, according to the three-time world triathlon champion.

“It is extremely unique, with a top-notch organization, top services, and top-notch circumstances for triathletes of all types. It features a particularly entertaining layout, allowing participants to take advantage of the bay’s distinctive surroundings, the roads surrounding Felanitx, and the rise to Sant Salvador before finishing their race through the old town and toward the Portocolom lighthouse. I will re-join the Balearic triathlon community in 2023 with great pride as a local athlete” says Mario Mola.

The Triathlon of Portocolom is put on by the event management company Kumulus and the Club Triatló Portocolom, with the help of the Felanitx Town Council, and is sponsored by the European Union Next Generation EU, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism, the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, the Tourism Strategy Agency of the Government of the Balearic Islands (AETIB), and the Fundació Mallorca Turisme.
